QUALIFICATION
New Zealand qualified by reaching the semi-finals at the qualifier. With two wins against England 3:1 and Korea 4:1 the team won the gold medal, too.
COACH
Already in 1986 Kevin Towns was manager of the team at the World Cup in London, and in 1989 he became head coach. With a family conflict – his son Simon was to become a national player on his way to the senior team – he resigned after an excellent 8th place at the1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. In July 2002 he came back as head coach and helped his team to achieve the 6th place in Athens.
After winning the qualifier in April they also reached the 4th place at the 15th Azlan Shah Cup (with 8 participants).
