SPAIN WINS BRONZE BY A GOLDEN GOAL OF POL AMAT

Korea started very defensive and waited at mid-line as they usually do. Santi Freixa went to the ground after a collision with keeper Myung Ho Lee. A short corner was given, S. Freixa flicked over the bar. In the 9th minute David Alegre won possession on the right side and passed to Pol Amat who deflected to S. Freixa. He saw Eduard Tubau standing at the post who scored the 1:0. Soon Korea got the chance to equalize by You but goalie Herrera saved. Amat had the next opportunity for Spain but his stroke missed the goal and could not get reached by S. Freixa anymore. In the end of the first half Amat missed again. The Korean’s played better towards the break but visited the Spanish circle too rarely.

As soon as the second half began, Amat didn’t score after a nice pass by D. Alegre. A few minutes later, Amat went on the ground-line and passed to S. Freixa who marked the 2:0. Suddenly the Korean team came back and joined attention in the Spanish circle with Eun Seong Hong and Woon Kon Yeo. As Herrera’s deflected ball hit a team-mate, Korea scored by Jong Hyun Jang after a penalty corner in minute 42.

Now the Asian’s attacked more than before and got good chances. Another penalty corner by Jang was saved by Herrera.

15 more minutes to go and Korea won a penalty corner again, this time by Hong but Lee missed. Later, a hit by You went to a foot of Ramon Alegre. The flick during the penalty corner was saved again but Jong Ho Seo was able to equalize with the rebound after 59 minutes.

Now Spain pressured again, M. Lee cleared against Amat and was injured, but stood up again. Also the Korean’s created another opportunity. The pass by Sung Hoon Yoon was cleared by R. Alegre. After the final-whistle Spain went into the second overtime in only 42 hours.

In the first minute of the overtime, Amat won possession in mid-field, ran into the circle and flicked the ball over M. Lee who came out of his goal into the net. That meant the Spanish made the Golden Goal and won the third place in this tournament.
