Both teams started off with an aggressive pressing, this lead too many mistakes on both sides. Spain gained more and more ball possession and took control of the game. Tubau, one of the most active players on the pitch, kept the pakistani busy throughout the entire match. In the 10th minute the shock for Spain, Butt scored the 1:0. A fantastic combination over Abbasi, Zubair and Maqsood, found Butt who only had to push the ball into the empty goal. In the 18th minute corner for Spain, S. Freixa was not on the pitch so Tubau took the responsibility. His flick was saved and Sojo's rebound went wide.

In the 28th minute the equaliser for Spain. Tubau finds S. Freixa who hits the ball into the bottom left corner with a fantastic reverse stick hit, no chance for Akbar.


The second half started similar to the first half. Both teams played very attractive attacking hockey. Corner for Spain in the 41st minute. The flick by Freixa was saved, but Alegre's rebound could only be saved by a Pakistani's body. After a brief discussion the umpires awared a penalty to Spain. This lead to heavy complains from the Pakistani players. Amat however remained calm and found the back of the net with the penalty.

Now both teams were fired up and wasted a lot of energy with unnecasarry dribblings. In the 52. minute corner for Spain, Abbas dragflicks the ball into the goal. No chance for Herrera. Both teams tried to score the winning goal in the remaing 20 minutes. Pakistan missed a few chances from an open play, and Spain did not manage to use their penalty corner successfully.
