2006-08-29 On September 6th begins of the BDO World Cup Men in Moenchengladbach. DHB-President, Mr. Stephan Abel, in the following interview is looking ahead and conveys the atmosphere of the DHB shortly before the start of the WC at home.
Mr. Abel: is the WC dominating Hockey at this moment?
ABEL: Of course the WC is a very important event which is observed by the public, but it is a lot of extra work, too, for the office. However, there is also business as usual.
What is the aim behind it all?
ABEL: Our aim is to find more members for Hockey Clubs. There will be live television for most of the WC matches. The media is following the event very intensively. We hope that with this up-coming spirit young people and grown-ups will take the opportunity to join our hockey family. There are clubs in everybody's neighbourhood.
Did you get enough volunteers?
ABEL: Yes, fortunately: from shuttle service, to ball-kids, stand and parking staff, the press centre, the web-team, hostesses and, and, and…. all are volunteers, most of them come from Hockey, but others, too, who just want to help as volunteers at a World Cup in their own country even if they had nothing to do with our sport until now. A very motivated team will help our guests. They will be co-ordinated by Wibke Weisel and Anna Panke. With the help of all our volunteers I am sure we shall give our best to be a good host.
How was the suppport of the City of Möchengaldbach and North-Rhine-Westphalia?
ABEL: Only with the support of the City and the county we were able to build our Hockey stadion. This stadion is the basis for the World Cup. Furthermore representatives of the City and the county are memebers of the OC helping with their expertise. We are very pleased and thank them for their help.
